Hi, I’m DeLisha

Mom/Wife/Daughter/Friend/ Writer/ Researcher/ Storyteller/Archivist of Black Women’s Narratives

I know what it means to push back against structures that weren’t built for us. Black women have always had to create our own spaces, our own archives, our own ways of being seen.

I write, research, and document because our narratives deserve more than survival—they deserve recognition and permanence. Through storytelling, scholarship, and advocacy, I challenge the systems that erase us while building spaces where we can exist fully.

I am not just where I am from—I am the stories, the voices, and the echoes of those who came before me.

WHO AM I?

I am from pork chops and collard greens…

Gumbo and red beans and rice

I am from Thanksgiving, where the blues was played and where the children silently rested, eavesdropping like flies on the wall

I am from “Push along” and Red Sox and babysitting and maids

I am from yelling and loudness; I am from sadness and tenacity

I am from Chuck Brown and Rare Essence

I am from Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan, and Sunday morning cleaning

I am from Diane, Dorothy, Azalea, and Margie

I am from Jacob, Jacob Sr., Leroy and Henry

I am from my ancestors’ wildest dreams and voices of Sandra, Breonna, and Ayanna

I am from, say her name and strength

I am from justice and bones resting when the days end

A Few Things That Make me, Me

  • For me, it’s family, quiet, reflection—or rewatching the same comforting movie I’ve seen a dozen times.

  • Books, journals, receipts—I’m always jotting notes, quotes, or questions. It’s how I process the world.

  • It would blend 90s R&B, gospel, and a little jazz—rhythmic, layered, and full of feeling.

  • Not just academic—it’s rooted in the lives, losses, and lessons of the Black women who shaped me.

  • Especially when the answer is “I don’t know.” That’s usually where the real work begins.

How We Can Work Together

WHAT I HOLD SPACE FOR

Narrative Strategy & Story Development

For individuals, collectives, and orgs that want to tell stories with care and clarity.

Whether you’re launching a project, crafting a report, or amplifying a campaign, I help shape stories that center lived experience and refuse erasure. Together, we’ll build narrative strategy that’s culturally grounded, thoughtful, and powerful.

Great for: advocacy campaigns, mission-driven brands, scholars, and movement spaces.

THE WORK I DO

Research Consulting & Report Development

I work with organizations and initiatives to design and develop qualitative research projects, write culturally grounded reports, and translate complex findings into digestible, narrative-driven outputs.

Great for: nonprofits, collectives, media orgs, or institutions doing work on race, gender, or digital equity.

WHERE WE MEET

Speaking, Guest Lectures & Trainings

I speak on topics including misogynoir, digital resistance, Black feminist storytelling, and ethical narrative practice. I’ve presented at universities, conferences, and organizations seeking to deepen their understanding of equity and representation.

Topics tailored to your space, rooted in storytelling and strategy.
